As the White House announced yesterday, and I released a heads up that they would move forward with DAPL, we are seeing Trump’s Administration building momentum in what will likely be a three step process beginning first, today, with Trump signing the Executive Order signaling his intentions. While this is not a good sign for us, it does not mean that all hope is lost. He’s going to have to do a lot more than sign an executive order to override what the Army Corps of Engineers have started, but like I said lastnight: we are now in a position to stop, resist, stand up, and prevent destruction from becoming irreversible.
If you were with me back in December when I wrote of the legal teams representing ETP or of the executives leaking audio from board meetings where the COO of ETP directly states that “Election Day changed everything…” and they have the support of the new administration (audio here). ETP and their supporters were just waiting for #Trump to take office and he did not waste any time showing them that he is, in fact, with them.
But couldn’t we have known a lot of this upfront and perhaps prevented some of this from taking place? I feel a lot of tension around this topic, and a lot of people are very frustrated right now and I feel you I really do. When Trump did not release his taxes he did not allow ANYONE to see where his financial ties and obligations stood. This is important, this is very important as he has now taken office and will NEVER release this information. Donald Trump back in November and before he took office still held stock in DAPL: 
Now, if he were to push the project through (and he is clearly indicating that is his intention), and if he hasn’t sold the stock, then he stands to make $3.8 billion dollars off of the project alone. The number is astounding to me, but then again with all of the tax breaks he’s making for his cabinet and the billions he’s made there I just wonder when someone will tally it all up and decide when to put a cap on the gross amount a president can take home in one year! The entire time preceding the #Inauguration Trump was disputing the fact that he had any conflicts at all, when he has dozens of conflicts of interest. But we know this, the part that we are forgetting is that without his tax returns we cannot discern whether or not he has actually sold off his shares in DAPL. We can argue amongst ourselves or make a decision: focus on the real problem at hand and use our energy were and when it counts.
In North Dakota alone, just North Dakota, 176,000 gallons of oil spilled last month. LAST MONTH! As we strip our earth of its resources we bleed poison into what’s left of the living and prospering essence of life and beauty, and the pipeline hasn’t even finished construction.
So, if the #WomensMarch has shown us anything it’s that we can overcome and unite. And there are wonderful and powerful women who are passionate leaders who are not going to allow mother earth to be destroyed. In the coming days we will have to make some serious decisions, do we stand up and stand with the #WaterProtectors in #StandingRock? Do we #Divest? Maybe we have already done all of this, perhaps we need to rally those around us and start to have the conversations with those who aren’t as educated about what is going on and get them to join us. There is a role for everyone, we can donate, we can support, we can be vocal, we can send our energy, but most of all we can call our MOC’s and write and not stop.
